Causes of sciatica

Sciatica pain is caused by irritation and inflammation of the sciatic nerve, a large nerve that branches off the spinal cord. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body, about the diameter of a finger. Their nerve fibers begin on 4 and 5 lumbar vertebrae (L4, L5) and first sacral segments.
