protruding disc in lower back
Is it normal to have more back pain and leg after cortisone injection in the lower back?

I have a protruding disc and a tear disk over it in my lower back.I had a cortisone shot in the back on either side of yesterday and now all day today, I had more back pain and legs as before. I hope this is just a side effect of the injection and disappear but just wanted to see if anyone had experience with this and tell me what comply. I hope that once the pain subsides … there will be no pain. Thanks for your help!

It sounds like the shots I had done, called transforaminal injections epidural steroid. I was advised at a time (three different injections) increase the pain a little more for 2-5 days. Steroids take a few days to start working, and likely feeling some irritation of the needle and the medication itself. During the procedure, the doctor injects a local anesthetic, and then the medication Steroids, once the needle is in the right place. The location away after 6-8 hours and is normal to feel some discomfort increased at this time. The worst of the pain will the day after the injection. If the pain worsens, even after five days or so, or is so severe that they can move, or have a fever, redness or swelling at the injection site, then you need to contact your doctor immediately. I was advised to resume normal activities the day after my injection. Since I expected to temporarily increase my pain, I took an extra day off work. Once the medication starts to work, should significantly reduce or eliminate pain. It depends on your condition and the amount of inflammation present. Good luck!
